Thanks for your interest, Barbara– and I’m going to assume “arresting” and “haunting” are good things because those are powerful words, and the aim of my work is to elicit powerful emotional responses, so thank you.
I don’t really know how to answer what makes me want to go on painting, though, because the way I read it sounds like “what makes you want to go on living when it’s so arresting and haunting and altogether hard”? I suppose it may not make much sense to some why a person might choose to be a “starving artist,” but to me it’s like asking a fish why it swims. When it’s in you, it’s in you… and creating art in one form or another is something I know I was born to do. To me, if I can give someone the gift of seeing the beauty in an otherwise overlooked moment–and in turn, one less thing is taken for granted– then I’ve done my job.
I was happy to see some of my favorite photos have been turned into beautiful paintings and displayed here.
Congrats Lish! You are so talented, and just keep getting better and better.

Nicola Griffith talked about your work on her blog. Your paintings are arresting and haunting. What makes you want to go on painting?
